Historical Society Seeks Volunteer Docents

Volunteers to act as docents for the Warwick Historical Society's museums during the summer months are encouraged to attend a workshop at the education center at Baird's Tavern, 105 Main Street across from the post office, on June 12 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.

The museums - Baird's Tavern, 1810 House, the Shingle House, and the Old School Baptist Meeting House - will be open every Tuesday and Saturday from 2:00 to 4:30 pm starting July 1. Each building will be assigned a seasoned docent (tour guide) as well as one or two newcomers, depending on the needs of the building.

Ivy Tulin and Elizabeth Hurd, co-chairs of the Historical Society's education committee, stress that volunteers do not have to be history experts or members of the Society to be trained as docents. "All interested people between the ages of 12 and still breathing" are welcome to the June 12 session. For more information, call Sybil H. Skinner, director, at 986-3236.
