“Warwick in History” – The following was taken from the book HISTORICAL PAPERS, Part 1, 1914.

In the year 1913 a prize of $5.00 was offered by a member of the Warwick Historical Society for the best essay to be written by a member of our public school, upon a subject of local history.

There were six contestants for the prize and the committee divided the prize between Miss Deborah E. VanDuzer, whose subject was “When Warwick was on the Kings Highway,” and Winthrop Sanford, whose subject was “The Trail of the Red Man in the Warwick Valley.” The award was made at the June 1913 commencement.
