“Warwick in History” – Around 1878, the Temperance League of Warwick was organized. Its objectives were to develop public sentiment in favor of temperance, secure the election of commissioners of excise opposed to license, and by judicious action enforce the law as far as possible. It proposed to make an annual canvass of the town for the furtherance of these plans. That it has met with reasonable degree of success is evident from the increased vote in favor of no license. Its membership consisted of the clergymen of the place and many of the leading businessmen. Connected with this society was a glee club led by E. B. Taylor, adding with its stirring songs and excellent music a feature of great interest to the meetings.
